Belle on Azarat by Eugene Blocaille. Eugène Blocaille (French, 1873 - ?) Eugène Blocaille was born in 1873, possibly on January 10, in the North of France in Valenciennes (59) where he lived on 20 bis (?) rue de Beaumont. His parents, Eugène Marie Blocaille (born in 1842) and Aline Marie Caroline Girard got married in Valenciennes on April 9, 1872. On December 12, 1873, his sister, Aline Marie Adèle, was born. Eugène Blocaille seems to have been a banker for the Caisse d'Epargne in the 1920s and early 30s when he was director for a Valenciennes branch. Art was his hobby and he participated in the first and second exhibition of the Société Valenciennoise des Arts in 1893 and 1894 to which he was a member in 1899. He was also passionate about horse races. He combined both hobbies by illustrating races and writing articles for Le Sport Universel Illustré. In 1945, he wrote and illustrated the book L'École de Versailles sous l'Ancienne Monarchie, and a year later he illustrated the book Autour du turf. Hommes et chevaux du Sud-ouest by Francis de Luze.
