Map, South Carolina Coastal Plantations, 1932 Publisher : Decorative Maps and Charts (129 Tradd St., Chas., SC) A. T. S. (Augustine Thomas Smythe) Stoney (American, b. 1894) Charleston, S.C. illustrator, cartographer, and U.S. Army officer. Stoney served in U.S Army field artillery units in France and Germany during World War I. He worked as a draftsman, surveyor, topographer, and civil engineer for the Nevada Northern Railway, the Port Utilities Commission of Charleston (S.C.), and the T.V.A. before returning to military service in 1942 in the U.S. Army air arm in North Africa. He was the son of Samuel Gaillard Stoney (1853-1926) and Louisa Cheves Smythe (1868-1939). His wife was Eliza Louisa Jenkins, daughter of Edward Jenkins. South Carolina Historical Society |
